There are a lot of things coming up on CODECXS this year. MUSIC, FILMS, VIDEO ART, ARTICLES… even some Live events.
-I am currently partnered with an organization, and curating a video art exhibition that I’m excited to share about later this month.
-I FINALLY have some new content coming together as well as some re-edits from my personal archive that will go up on this page throughout this year.
-Curated content from a variety of other media-makers will also start appearing somewhat regularly on this page.
…. … . . …. …….in the meantime…
I found this video below in my cloud storage, and felt like sharing it today.
It’s called Mama Take These Guns.
I don’t know. Sometimes I am compelled by otherworldly forces to make strange art. This time (about four months ago when I recorded this), I was driven to this strange performance by an obsession with some structural similarities between Mazy Star’s “Fade into You”, and Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”. Beyond the similar cadence and tone, the songs both speak of a sort of dissolution of the self, but in one case the self is lost by falling in love and in the other, the self is lost in preparing for (or maybe just longing for) death.
….Also, the glitches are on purpose!
Singing Dylan over Mazzy Star while dissolving into nothing.
